BattleMeshV3.1416, 3-4-5 September, Florenville (Belgium)

The Wireless Battle Mesh version 3.1416 aims to test a network of 30 isolated routers with different routing protocols, in a countryside environnement (cows, trees, pastures, and forests).

When?

Friday 3, Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 September 2010.

Where?

Florenville is locate in the South of Belgium, 1km to the French border, 40km to the Luxembourgish border.

as soon as possible so that the organisators can plan the logistics (space, rooms, food, transport, etc...).

Fee

A fee of 15EUR for the 3 days at the entrance, to cover the costs of Internet connectivity, electricity, etc...

Hosting

Zoobab is organising the event at his parent's place, which offers a large area (50 ares) where you can put your tent, with electricity, an ethernet cable, and showers and toilets facilities.

The house also offers enough indoor place to sleep (bring your floor matelas and sleeping bag).

Train

  1. Florenville has a train station (Brussels-Florenville takes 2 hours) (Take the Line Brussels-Luxembourg, change at Libramont, and take the small train to Florenville-Virton, there is only one every 2 hours)
  2. There is also a possibility to go to Marbehan, which has a frequency of a train every hour, and ask for car pickking up in advance with your time of arrival.
  3. There is also another possibility to go to the french station of Sedan (40km away), and ask for car pickking up a week in advance.

Road

  1. From Brussels: distance is 180 km, trip time of ~1h40,take the motorway E411, direction Arlon; at junction n°26, take direction Neufchâteau, and then Florenville.
  2. From Luxembourg: take the motorway E411 (A4) direction Arlon; at junction n°29, get off and take the N87 direction Etalle; then use N83 over Tintigny to get to Florenville.
  3. From Paris: distance is 284km, direction Reims - Charleville-Méizières - Sedan - Bouillon - Florenville

Plane

Florenville does not have an airport, the closest one is the one of Luxembourg.

Beer

The abbaye of Orval is at 6km from the main city of Florenville, and produces one of the best trappist beer of Belgium, and of the world, since there are few trappists.

Maginot

The Maginot Line was a defense line of France built in the 1930ies between the World War I and World War II. It was easily defeated by the powerful German army at the beginning of the World War II.

It can provide high points with good line of sight for longshots and other wifi and antenna tests.

camp in Florenville, near Orval (South of Belgium).

The Wireless Battle Mesh version 3.1416 aims to test a network of 30
isolated routers with different routing protocols (OLSR, BATMAN, Babel),
in a countryside environnement (cows, trees, pastures, and forests).
